In 1957 Brooklyn, Tom’s Restaurant is an institution. The Brooklyn Dodgers wander in from nearby Ebbets Field for ice cream after training. Local kids come to ogle the mountains of homemade chocolates. Neighborhood partiers who hit the juice a little too hard Saturday night soothe their troubled stomachs with Bromo Seltzers on Sunday morning. For the kids and teachers of Erasmus High School, the diner is the perfect hangout, just a quick trolley ride from school.

But things aren’t all egg creams and spam sandwiches at Tom’s tonight.
